PHOENIX – A Phoenix real estate agent is accused of stealing jewelry from a home that she showed to prospective buyers.

Angela Ortiz, 32, was booked into jail for theft, trafficking in stolen property and refusing to provide her true name to officers.

On June 24, a 44-year-old woman reported that $15,000 of jewelry had been stolen from her home near Union Hills Drive and 40th Street, which is for sale.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos, the woman said she discovered the jewelry was missing after a real estate agent showed the house to potential buyers.

Detectives identified Ortiz as the agent and interviewed her about the theft. She denied taking the property or having any knowledge of what happened to the victim's jewelry.

Martos said Ortiz traded a Chanel ring and two other rings for a custom diamond ring at a Scottsdale pawn shop on July 18. The Chanel ring's serial number matched one stolen from the victim's home.

Police tracked her down at a home in Maricopa on Wednesday. She fled while officers were attempting to arrest her, but she was ultimately taken into custody.

Ortiz attempted to conceal her true identity, but officers found her Arizona driver's license in her possession.

Martos said Ortiz has an extensive pawn record, indicating there may be additional victims.

Detectives are asking any other victims to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
