PHOENIX -- Phoenix firefighters rescued three puppies and two other dogs from a house fire Friday evening.
The blaze broke out at a home on Cypress Street around 5 p.m., displacing a mother and her five children.
The residents were not home at the time, but firefighters found the animals shortly after entering.
“We made our way in the back bedroom, and I saw a little puppy running around. I grabbed it and handed it off to firefighter Joaquin," said firefighter Kyle Perfette of Phoenix Fire.
“Obviously it was important that we get them out of there, because the smoke and there was a lot of fire back there,” said Captain Joaquin Torres of Phoenix Fire. “We had to get them out of that environment as soon as possible.”
The dogs were all brought to safety and are currently staying with a neighbor.
The Red Cross helped the family affected find a place to stay.
It’s believed the fire started somewhere near the attic, but investigators are still working to determine the cause.
