PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said two Valley parents have been arrested on child abuse charges in connection with the death of their young child.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump identified them Thursday morning as Denise J. Snow-Ingram and Ernest G. Ingram, both 38.

Police said officers responded to a home near 11th and Highland avenues Wednesday morning after receiving word that a baby was not breathing.

The Phoenix Fire Department treated the girl before she was rushed to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

According to police, the baby weighed less than nine pounds and was suffering from “profound malnutrition.”

The child also had numerous fractures of the ribs and extremities.

Police said both parents admitted that the girl had only been in their care since she was born.

The baby had also not seen a doctor since she was born due to her parents’ religious beliefs.

Snow-Ingram and Ingram were eventually booked into jail on child abuse charges.

Police said six other children between the ages of 3 and 12 were also removed from the home.

The investigation is still ongoing.
