PHOENIX – It’s National Pancake Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a free short stack!
IHOP is where you want to be today. They're serving up free flapjacks until 10 p.m.
As Stella Inger explained, you can get a free short stack at IHOP and help the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at the same time. It's all part of IHOP's National Pancake Day celebration.
The national goal this year is $3 million.
"Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised more than $10 million to support charities in the communities in which it operates," reads the IHOP website.
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals raises money for 170 children's hospitals across North America, which, in turn, uses the money where it's needed the most. Children’s Miracle Network supports about 17 million kids and their families every year, including children right here in Arizona. Phoenix Children's Hospital is part of the network.
Last year, almost $60,000 was raised here in Phoenix.
"We're just hoping to beat last year's record," said Susan O’Donnell of Phoenix Children's Hospital. "Let's do it! $100,000 sounds really good, one short stack at a time."
When you give a donation, the money stays in the community, ensuring that every dollar is helping local kids.
Aiden Morales, with his huge grin, is one of those children. At 9 years old, he's already had three heart surgeries and has spent a great deal of time at Phoenix Children's Hospital. He describes the hospital in a single, enthusiastic word. "Awesome!"
"Without Phoenix Children's, we wouldn't be sitting here," said Jennifer Morales, Aiden's mom.
You can take part in the celebration/fundraiser at any IHOP location. The restaurants will be open until 10 p.m.
