SUN CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- The Department of Defense plans two meetings this week with citizens living near Luke Air Force Base over future training flights involving the Air Force's new F-35 jet.
Tuesday evening's meeting is in El Mirage and Defense Department officials say specific information on how the F-35 will be integrated at Luke will be covered.
Supporters of the F-35 stealth fighter point to the effect Luke has on the local and regional economy. They maintain failure to bring the fighter jet to the Glendale base would be a significant blow to the local economy.
El Mirage officials say they need to know more about the noise generated by the F-35 before they can fully embrace Luke as a pilot training facility for the new jet fighter.
The second meeting on the F-35 is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in Surprise.
