GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police said the suspect in a recent sexual assault case narrowly escaped authorities while shopping at a Valley Walmart Wednesday night.
According to police, the man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on Sept. 29 was at a Walmart near Thomas Road and 36th Street at around 10 p.m. when he was recognized by another shopper.
The individual who recognized the suspect contacted store security and police, but by the time officers arrived the suspect and the man he was with had fled the scene.
Police said surveillance video at Walmart confirmed that the suspect still had the same thin beard and mustache from last month’s assault.
The man is suspected of forcing a girl into his vehicle at gunpoint in the area of 59th Avenue and Campbell Avenue.
He then drove her to the area of 59th Avenue and Missouri Avenue where he sexually assaulted her.
The suspect is Hispanic, and approximately 27 years old. He is believed to have been driving a newer model, silver Toyota FJ Cruiser with a white roof and a black roof rack.
Police said the man with the suspect on Wednesday night also appears to be Hispanic, and is in his mid twenties. He’s 6 feet tall, around 180 pounds, and has no facial hair.
