PHOENIX -- Wearable technology can make a great holiday gift for anyone on your list, including the runner, the busy professional, and even the fashionista.
Tishin Donkersley, Editor-in-Chief of AZ Tech Beat, said smart watches and fitness trackers are some of the popular wearable gadgets for the new year.
Smart watches, like the Pebble and Samsung Galaxy Gear, integrate with your smartphone. You can send and receive calls through the watch and share information between the devices.
"You can handle things on the go," Donkersley said.
Donkersley also demonstrated several wearable gadgets that can help you track your workouts.
"We want to make sure we're keeping off those holiday pounds," she said.
SMART Garments, created by the Arizona-based Performance 3D company, are equipped with sensors that track your movements to reduce injuries and enhance performance.
Did you rotate your hips too much on your golf swing? The GolfRite 3D SMART Garment can tell you that.
"It can give you real-time feedback about how you're positioning your body, and eventually the consumer model is actually going to sync to your phone," Donkersley said. "So as you're working out, it's going to say, 'Hey, you've got to change your technique a little bit.' "
Fitness trackers come in several other forms, including clip-ons and bracelets.
The Misfit Shine bracelet tracks your daily activity and syncs with Apple devices without compromising on style.
"Design is actually first on this," Donkersley explained. "That's the kind of thing that we're seeing. Fashion and design meets technology. What wearable (tech) should do is not distract from what you're doing. It should become part of it."
