PHOENIX -- After a picture perfect weekend in the Valley of the Sun, with highs in the 70s and low 80s, Mother Nature will send temperatures soaring into the new week.
A strong ridge of high pressure building in from the west will allow temperatures to flirt with the century-mark by midweek.
The normal high temperature this week in the Phoenix metro area is between 83 and 84 degrees. On Monday, Phoenix should hit a high of 88, with Tuesday seeing a high of 94. This is expected to be the first 90-degree day of 2014 for Phoenix.
Temperatures look like they will peak on Wednesday with an afternoon high of 98. The 90s are expected to stick around through Friday.
The average first 90-degree day in Phoenix is April 2. Last year, Phoenix hit that mark on March 14. The earliest 90-degree day happened back on Feb. 24, 1904.
Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s to mid 60s. Skies will be sunny and humidity will be very low.
