SOUTH PHOENIX -- Funeral services were held Saturday for a Mesa soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Jake Whetton, 31, already had plane tickets to come home next month for a two-week break. The Army Ranger would have turned 32 on Friday. He died last Friday when an IED exploded near his vehicle.
