PHOENIX -- Not every dad is having a happy Father's Day weekend.

“This is a very serious problem. We take it serious,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio while talking about his annual deadbeat parent roundup, which involves deputies, reservists and volunteer posse members.

On Saturday, it was about finding all those "deadbeat dads."

“This hurts the mother that has to maybe work two jobs to be able to clothe and feed the kids. Maybe the supervision isn't there. Maybe the kids get involved in drugs and gangs. So, it's a bigger picture than just not paying child support,” Arpaio said.

In all, Arpaio said deadbeat parents in the county owe close to $4 million in back child support and if they don't pay, they'll be spending Father's Day in Tent City. He said some parents have been arrested several times and some owe up to $50,000 in back child support.

“I would highly recommend all you deadbeats out there surrender,” Arpaio said.
