PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. -- Paradise Valley police say there have been six burglaries in seven days in the area south of Shea and east of Tatum.

In an email to 3TV, Paradise Valley Police Commander Alan Laitsch said the crimes happened between October 13 and October 20, mostly in the evening and overnight hours.
“The MO is the same in all, an object is used to break a rear window and the house is ransacked with jewelry being the primary item taken,” said Laitsch.
“I’m a little surprised, I’m a little shocked, and I’m a little upset,” said Jackie Wishon, who lives in the area and has always considered it a safe place.
“I just now left to take my dogs for a walk and I left the doors wide open. It never entered my mind that it wouldn’t be ok. I guess I’ll have to go back and lock them now,” said Wishon.
Liz Petrie, who lives around the corner from Wishon, said a woman on her street was burglarized last week.
“I’m concerned,” said Petrie. “If they want to get in, they seem to get it. That’s the unfortunate thing.”
According to police, there have been several reports of a man going door to door claiming to be a meat salesman, then trying to force his way inside. Police said this may be the suspect’s way of “casing” the homes before breaking in.
Bill Gibson said his wife noticed someone suspicious in their driveway.
“She was sitting in her car,” said Gibson. “She could see in her rearview mirror something coming along the side of the car. She opened the door and there’s a guy.”
The man ran off before they could do anything. In one case, the suspect was described as a male between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall.
In another case the suspect was described as a white male in his 50s with medium brown hair.
Though there have been no reported burglaries since October 20, residents are asked to call the police department is they spot any suspicious activity.
