SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. -- Two South Dakota snowbirds hit the Desert Trails Golf Course on Dec. 15 for what seemed like an ordinary day of golf.

"I played quite well, actually, during the round," Ted Wechsler said. "I got to 14, a 142-yard hole, and took out my trusty 6-iron and hit it, and it felt really good."

He had hit a hole-in-one.

"I was happy for him but, in a way, I was angry that it wasn't me," his wife, Sandy Wechsler, said with a laugh. "(I was) a little jealous. ... I wanted one."

Sandy Wechsler approached the 17th hole and hit the golf ball 86 yards with her 9-iron club.

"They kept telling me it was in the hole and, when I got up there and looked in the hole, my legs turned to jelly."

Sandy Wechsler said the odds of two people making a hole-in-one in the same round are 17 million to one, according to her Internet research.

The couple saved their golf balls and score card, and were given certificates by the Sun City West golf course.
