PHOENIX -- More than 250 soldiers from the Arizona Army National Guard's 2-285th Assault Helicopter Battalion are scheduled to deploy to Iraq.
Guard officials say this will mark the Phoenix-based battalion's first mobilization and deployment to Iraq, and Alpha Company's
second deployment to Iraq.
The 2-285th is made up of about 250 soldiers from Arizona, as well as soldiers from Utah, North Dakota and Oklahoma. The soldiers will train at Fort Sill, Okla., before heading to Iraq.
Gov. Jan Brewer and the leader of the Arizona National Guard, Maj. Gen. Hugo E. Salazar, will attend a send-off ceremony for the soldiers Monday in Phoenix.
Over 600 Arizona Army and Air National Guard men and women are serving on federal active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and within the continental U.S.
