PHOENIX -- After a blissful day of highs in the 70s across the Valley, it’s ‘back to reality’ as we head into the weekend.

A cold front that brought gusty winds across the state for the first half of the week also ushered in much cooler air from the north, which kept our afternoon temperatures at bay across the state Thursday. As the storm system moves well east of Arizona, high pressure will once again reign over the forecast.

Thursday night, expect one more round of chilly low temperatures before the mercury starts to soar once again. In the Valley, we’ll see a low of 51 degrees under clear skies. On Friday, we’ll warm back up to the mid 80s under sunny skies.

Dry, northwesterly flow from a building ridge of high pressure will keep our skies clear not only this weekend but into the start of next week. However, the bigger story will be the heat that encompasses the Valley.

By Saturday, you’ll be looking for a pool to jump in. The high in Phoenix should reach 91. On Sunday, expect a high of 93, and on Monday, an even warmer 94 is on tap. A normal high temperature for this time of year in Phoenix is 86.

By the way, our days are getting longer. Sunset for Thursday night is at 7:01 p.m. Sunrise will be at 5:53 a.m.
