PHOENIX -- Before you head out, make a note of these weekend freeway construction projects in the Phoenix area so you can avoid the traffic tie-ups. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT)says its crews will be working on storm drains around “The Stack” (I-10 and I-17 interchange near 27th Avenue). A work zone will also be affect the State Route 51 as workers there relocate overhead utilities.
*The Eastbound Interstate 10 ramp to northbound Interstate 17 (at the "Stack" interchange) will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 18) for storm drain maintenance. DETOUR: Drivers can exit at 27th Avenue and use McDowell Road or exit at Seventh Avenue, make a U-turn to use westbound I-10, eventually reaching northbound I-17.
*The State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) will be closed at times in both directions near Bell Road from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 19) for overhead utility relocation. Drivers should expect closures of 20 minutes or less. DETOUR: Please be prepared to slow down in the work zone and allow extra travel time.
