FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Arizona Department of Transportation closed State Route 89A Wednesday afternoon due to weather conditions.

The highway is closed between Sedona and Flagstaff (milepost 386 at Pumphouse Wash to milepost 397 at Forest Highlands) and will remain closed until at least Thursday afternoon.

ADOT said the closure will allow snowplow crews to prioritize efforts on Interstate 17.

ADOT also announced that northbound State Route 87 is closed at milepost 254, north of Payson, due to snow and multiple crashes.

All traffic is restricted on Interstate 17 at Stoneman Lake (milepost 307, about 15 miles north of Camp Verde) due to commercial vehicle slide-offs. Heavy tow trucks are en route to help clear the roadway. Drivers are advised to delay travel and check conditions before departure. A truck-chain advisory has been issued.

Before heading out on the roads, drivers are encouraged to call 511 or log on to ADOT's Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov for the latest highway conditions around the state.
