Before heading out this weekend, drivers will want to make a note of these weekend construction projects from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). Anyone traveling on the I-10 near the downtown area on Friday night will have to find alternates. Also, motorists who need to drive on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway through north Tempe may experience slowing in construction zones, though the freeway will not be close.
*Eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed overnight between the I-17 ‘Stack’ interchange and Seventh Street from 9 p.m. Friday (Oct. 4) to 9 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 5) for maintenance work that needs to be performed in the Deck Park Tunnel. The Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 19th and Seventh Avenues also be closed. DETOUR: Eastbound I-10 traffic can use southbound I-17 to travel beyond the closure and reconnect with eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport.
*Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) will be narrowed to one lane between Priest Drive and Van Buren Street through North Tempe from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 5) as crews make pavement repairs on the freeway. DETOUR: Please consider alternate routes, allow extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.
