Weekend closures and restrictions on Valley freeways - June 17-20

PHOENIX – Several freeway improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend, June 17-20. The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend restrictions are in place:

* Westbound Loop 101 closed between 19th and 51st avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Sunday (June 19) for HOV lane construction. I-17 ramps to and from westbound Loop 101 also closed. DETOUR: Westbound Loop 101 traffic can detour along Beardsley frontage road and return to freeway at 51st Avenue. Use local streets, including 19th Avenue and Deer Valley Road, while I-17 ramps are closed.

* Northbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane at Camelback Road and Glendale and Peoria avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday (June 18) for HOV lane work. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time.

* Northbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane between Thunderbird and Bell roads from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 20) for overhead sign work. Southbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane overnight between Bell Road and Union Hills Drive and at Northern Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (June 18) and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (June 19) for paving. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

Please note: The Loop 101 HOV lane project between State Route 51 and I-10 involves accelerated work taking place along a 30-mile stretch of freeway. For additional restrictions not listed above please visit the project web site.

* Eastbound Interstate 10 ramp to northbound State Route 51 closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 20) for safety barrier replacement. DETOUR: Consider northbound 24th Street to westbound McDowell Road as alternate route

* Northbound Interstate 17 closed between I-10 ‘Split’ near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 18) for overhead sign work. DETOUR: Consider westbound I-10 through tunnel as alternate route.

* Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes between Avondale Boulevard and Estrella Parkway from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday (June 19). Eastbound Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes between Estrella Parkway and Avondale Boulevard from 2 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday (June 20) for lane striping. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time.

* Eastbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane between Verrado Way and Jackrabbit Trail from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (June 18) and Sunday (June 19) for bridge work. Expect ramp closures in this area on Sunday. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

* Both Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) ramps to westbound Interstate 10 closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday (June 19) for paving. DETOUR: Use alternate routes, including Chandler Boulevard. Additional project restrictions are listed at www.ValleyFreeways.com/SantanClosures.

* State Route 143 ramp to westbound Loop 202 closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 20) for safety barrier replacement. DETOUR: Consider Washington Street and McDowell Road to 44th Street.

Freeway project work schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather.
