The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is sending out a traffic alert today to all drivers who may be traveling in the north part of the Valley. The eastbound lanes of Loop 101 are scheduled to be closed between 51st Avenue and 19th Avenue in north Phoenix from 9 p.m. Thursday night to 5 a.m. Friday morning (Sept. 16).
Construction crews will be installing an overhead sign during the overnight hours. This is part of an ongoing high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane construction project. Traffic trying to travel through the area will detour along the eastbound (Beardsley) frontage road.
This closure will also affect drivers on the I-17. The eastbound Loop 101 ramps to I-17 will be closed. So drivers can use either Deer Valley Road to reach northbound I-17 or Yorkshire Drive to reach southbound I-17.
Starting at the beginning of this year, construction crews have been working to add a carpool lane to a 30 mile stretch of the Loop 101 freeway, from the State Route 51 to the I-10 in Tolleson. When this portion of the Loop 101 expansion project is complete, drivers will be able to utilize more than 60 miles of an uninterrupted HOV lane, from I-10 on the west side of town, to the Loop 202, Santan Freeway, in Chandler.
