Several freeways to close for weekend construction

Before you head out this weekend, make of note of these Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) weekend construction projects.  As crews work, several freeways will close, including the State Route 143, State Route 51 and the I-17. 

*State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) closed in both directions between Interstate 10 and University Drive near Sky Harbor Airport from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (May 6) for pipeline work. Northbound 48th Street closed at Broadway Road. DETOUR: Sky Harbor traffic can use I-10 to Buckeye Road to access airport’s west entrance. Alternate north-south routes include 40th and 52nd streets.   

*Southbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed between Greenway and Cactus roads from 11 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (May 4) for installation of ramp meter equipment. DETOUR: Drivers can use Bell, Greenway, or Thunderbird roads to 32nd or 40th streets southbound to Cactus Road to access southbound SR 51.

*Southbound State Route 51 on-ramps at Greenway and Thunderbird roads closed from 11 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday (May 5) for installation of ramp meter equipment. DETOUR: Drivers can use Greenway or Thunderbird roads to 32nd or 40th streets southbound to Cactus Road to access southbound SR 51. 

*Northbound Interstate 17 closed at Peoria Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday (May 4) for installation of ramp meter equipment. DETOUR: Drivers can exit and re-enter I-17 using the off- and on-ramps at Peoria Avenue.

*Northbound Interstate 17 closed at Bell Road from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (May 5) for installation of ramp meter equipment. DETOUR: Drivers can exit and re-enter I-17 using the off- and on-ramps at Bell Road.
