Before you head out this weekend, make a note of these weekend construction projects from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). Several closure will affect drivers who travel on the State Route 51, I-17 and the State Route 143.
*Southbound State Route 51 closed between Cactus Road and Northern Avenue from 11 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday (April 27) and from 11 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (April 28) for ramp meter-equipment installation and lane striping. Southbound SR 51 on-ramps at Thunderbird and Cactus Roads closed. DETOUR: Consider using westbound Cactus Road to southbound Cave Creek Road and Seventh Street and then eastbound Northern Avenue to reach SR 51.
*Southbound State Route 51 on-ramps at Shea Boulevard, 32nd Street and 26th Street closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday (April 29) for ramp meter-equipment installation. DETOUR: Please plan ahead to use alternate routes to enter southbound SR 51, including westbound Cactus Road, southbound Cave Creek Road and Seventh Street and eastbound Northern Avenue.
*State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) closed in both directions between Interstate 10 and University Drive near Sky Harbor Airport from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (April 29) for pipeline work. Northbound 48th Street closed at Broadway Road. DETOUR: Sky Harbor traffic can use I-10 to Buckeye Road to access airport’s west entrance. Alternate north-south routes include 40th and 52nd Streets.
*Southbound Interstate 17 closed overnight at Cactus Road from 11 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (April 27) for equipment installation. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time. Southbound I-17 traffic will use the off- and on-ramps at Cactus Road. The southbound on-ramp at Thunderbird Road will close at 10 p.m. Friday. Consider using Peoria Avenue to access southbound I-17.
*Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane in both directions between 75th and Peoria Avenues from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (April 28) for pavement work. 75th, 83rd and Peoria Avenues closed intermittently at Grand Avenue. DETOUR: Expect closures of up to 20 minutes and consider using alternate routes, including 67th Avenue, Cotton Crossing and 91st Avenue.
*Eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Hawes Road in southeast Mesa closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday (April 28) for drainage-pipe installation. DETOUR: Consider using Power or Elliot roads to enter eastbound Loop 202.
