Phoenix planned major street restrictions (Updated June 14)

Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.

NEW RESTRICTIONS:

19TH AVENUE, GRAND AVENUE & MCDOWELL ROAD INTERSECTION

The intersection of 19th Avenue, Grand Avenue and McDowell Road is restricted to one lane in all directions until 6 a.m. Friday, June 14.

Local and business access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

The work will be completed by Arizona Public Service utility crews.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.

43RD AVENUE - CACTUS TO THUNDERBIRD ROADS

43rd Avenue between Cactus and Thunderbird roads will be restricted daily 6 a.m. to
6 p.m. beginning Monday, June 17, due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation overlay project. During this time 43rd Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Two southbound lanes will be maintained 6 to 8:30 a.m.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of June.

Police officers will assist with traffic control.

Business and local access will be maintained.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.

DUNLAP AVENUE – 35TH TO 43RD AVENUES 

Dunlap Avenue between 35th and 43rd avenues will be restricted daily from 6 a.m. to
6 p.m. beginning Tuesday, June 18, due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation overlay project. During this time Dunlap Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Two eastbound lanes will be maintained 6 to 8:30 a.m.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of June.

Police officers will assist with traffic control.

Business and local access will be maintained.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.

HAPPY VALLEY ROAD – 51ST TO 55TH AVENUES

Happy Valley Road between 51st and 55th avenues will be restricted daily 6 a.m. to
6 p.m. beginning Friday, June 14, due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation overlay project. During this time Happy Valley Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Two eastbound lanes will be maintained 6 - 8:30 a.m.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of June.

Police officers will assist with traffic control.

Business and local access will be maintained.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

STAR-SPANGLED INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION – SATURDAY, JUNE 22

Cesar Chavez Park, 7858 S. 35th Ave., will host the Star-Spangled Independence Day Celebration 6 to  10 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

Ingress for the event will begin at 5:30 p.m.;  egress for the event will begin at 10:30 p.m. Expect heavy traffic on the following streets:

· Baseline Road at Cesar Chavez Park Road
· 35th Avenue at Cesar Chavez Park Road

Local access will be maintained.

Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control.

All streets will be open to normal traffic 11 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
REOPENING AFTER RESTRICTIONS:

None.
 
CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS:

Baseline Road at 14th Street, partial restriction due to a Street Transportation Department Design and Construction Management storm drain installation and associated utility work, completion scheduled for June.

Baseline Road - Seventh and 10th streets, partial restriction due to the installation of a new fire line and sewer and driveway improvements, completion scheduled for June.

Broadway Road – 31st and 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Department and Talis Construction Corporation water infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for mid-July

Flamenco Drive and Country Gables Drive, full closure due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management traffic calming project, completion scheduled for mid-July.

Jefferson Street – Central Avenue to First Street, partial restriction due to CityScape’s hotel construction, with completion scheduled for May.

Southern Avenue at 22nd Street, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management drainage improvement project, completion scheduled for late June.

Village Drive – Camelback Road to 44th Street, full closure due to a Maricopa County Flood Control District and city of Phoenix major storm drain installation project, with completion scheduled for May.

19th Avenue, Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection - partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue).

The project will include pavement improvements, road construction and new right-turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations.  New lighting, landscape, screen walls and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for December.

19th Avenue -Thomas to Osborn roads, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department capital improvement project, completion scheduled for August.

22nd Street – Southern Avenue to Alta Vista Road, full closure due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management drainage improvement project, completion scheduled for late June.

24th Street - Osborn to Indian School roads, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management waterline installation project, completion scheduled for June.

44th Street – Camelback Road to Colter Street, partial restriction due to a Maricopa County Flood Control District and City of Phoenix joint project, completion scheduled for August 2013.

56th Street – State Route 101 to Deer Valley Road, partial restriction due to a City of Phoenix Planning & Development Department storm drain project, completion scheduled for June.

Northwest light rail extension - Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction.  19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.
