PHOENIX PLANNED MAJOR STREET RESTRICTIONS - UPDATED FEB. 21

Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.  

NEW RESTRICTIONS:
 
GREENWAY PARKWAY - 19TH AVENUE TO SEVENTH STREET
 
Greenway Parkway between 19th Avenue and Seventh Street is scheduled to be closed starting at 1 a.m. Monday, March 3, until September, for the demolition and construction of the Cave Creek Wash Bridge located on Greenway Parkway between 14th Avenue and 17th Drive.
 
During this closure, traffic on Greenway Parkway will be detoured at 19th Avenue and at Seventh Street to either Thunderbird or Bell roads.
 
It is highly recommended that Black Canyon Freeway (I-17) traffic needing to travel eastbound onto Greenway Parkway exit at Thunderbird or Bell roads.
 
Local and business access will be maintained.
 
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
SEVENTH STREET - ROOSEVELT STREET TO THOMAS ROAD
 
Seventh Street between Roosevelt Street and Thomas Road will be restricted to two lanes in each direction daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning on Thursday, Feb. 20, until May, for the installation of new power poles related to an Arizona Public Service infrastructure improvement project.
 
The reversible through lane on Seventh Street will also be restricted during this work.  Left turns on Seventh Street will be prohibited during these restrictions.
 
Off-duty uniformed police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
Local and business access will be maintained.
 
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
15TH AVENUE - DUNLAP AVENUE TO BUTLER DRIVE
 
15th Avenue from Dunlap Avenue to Butler Drive is scheduled for closures on Saturday, Feb. 22, and on Sunday, Feb. 23.
 
On Saturday, Feb. 22, the southbound lane will be closed daily starting at 5 a.m. and will reopen 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.  All traffic will only be able to travel northbound from Butler Drive to Dunlap Road.
 
On Sunday, Feb. 23, the northbound lane will be closed the entire day starting at 6 a.m. and will reopen on 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24.  All traffic will only be able to travel southbound from Dunlap Road to Butler Drive.
 
A city of Phoenix contractor will be on-site on both days painting bicycle pathways in the lanes, which will require a 24-hour drying time.
 
Emergency access will be maintained and all intersecting local streets will remain open.
 
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
24TH STREET - MCDOWELL TO THOMAS ROADS
 
24th Street between McDowell and Thomas roads will be restricted to two lanes northbound and one lane southbound daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning on Monday, Feb. 24, until May, for the installation of major natural gas lines related to a Southwest Gas Corporation infrastructure improvement project.
 
At all other times, two lanes will be maintained in both directions.
 
Off-duty uniformed police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
Local and business access will be maintained.
 
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
 
SPECIAL EVENTS:
 
RAGNAR RELAY DEL SOL 2014 - FRIDAY, FEB. 21, TO SATURDAY, FEB. 22
 
The Ragnar Relay Del Sol is an annual 200.5 mile relay run between Wickenburg and Tempe, Arizona.  This year's run is scheduled to start 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in Wickenburg and continue day and night for about 24 hours before entering the city of Tempe.
 
Runners are estimated to enter the city of Phoenix eastbound on Happy Valley Road at 67th Avenue around 8 p.m. continuing through Phoenix as follows:
 
Runners will travel eastbound on Happy Valley Road from 67th to 51st avenues (Stetson Valley Parkway), turning left on Stetson Valley Parkway to the Central Arizona Project Trail.  Following this trail, they will cross the Black Canyon Highway (I-17) to Norterra Parkway where they will turn left onto North Valley Parkway.  Runners will continue north to 27th Drive, where they will work their way to Carefree Highway.  Here they will head west to North Valley Parkway and turn north, following North Valley Parkway for about one mile where they will leave Phoenix.  From this point runners will continue through Anthem and other communities, and will reach the finish line in Tempe, Arizona.
 
RoadSafe Traffic Systems will provide all temporary traffic devices.
 
Police officers will be on-site to help facilitate traffic control.

MATSURI  FESTIVAL - SATURDAY, FEB. 22, AND SUNDAY, FEB. 23
 
This event will take place at Heritage Square.
 
Monroe Street will be closed from Fifth to Seventh streets starting 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, to stage this event.
 
Access to parking facilities will be maintained.
 
Monroe Street will be open to normal traffic 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.
 
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
RENAISSANCE HOTEL BIRTHDAY BASH - SATURDAY, FEB. 22
 
Adams Street is scheduled to be closed from Central Avenue to First Street starting 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, through 1 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, to stage this event.
 
Police officers will be provided to assist with traffic control.
 
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
HONOR WALK 5K - 9 A.M. SUNDAY, FEB. 23
 
This race will start and finish on First Street at Madison Street.
 
The following streets will be closed 8 - 11 a.m.:
    Jackson Street - Second Street to Fourth Avenue
    Washington Street - First to 17th avenues
    Jefferson Street - First to Seventh avenues
    Third Avenue - Jackson to Adams streets
    First Street - Jefferson to Jackson streets
Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
All streets will be open to normal traffic by 11 a.m.
 
Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through this area.
 
VALLEY OF THE SUN BIKE RACE - 7 A.M. SUNDAY, FEB. 23
 
The following streets are scheduled to be closed 5:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 for this event:
 
Jefferson St - 15th to 19th avenues
Washington Street - Seventh to 15th avenues
15th Avenue - Jackson to Van Buren streets
17th Avenue - Adams to Madison streets
Adams Street - 15th to 19th avenues
 
Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
All streets will open to normal traffic by 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.
 
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
CAMELBACK RANCH - 2014 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING
 
The 2014 Major League Baseball Spring Training season at the Camelback Ranch complex begins  Thursday, Feb. 27, with games scheduled daily through Thursday, March 27.
 
It is anticipated during this time, Camelback Road from 99th Avenue to Ballpark Boulevard (111th Avenue) will experience heavier than usual traffic during day games, as follows:
    Ingress traffic - 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. daily
    Egress traffic - 3:30 - 5 p.m. daily
In addition, the scheduled evening games may affect traffic as follows:
    Ingress traffic - 5:30 - 7:15 p.m.
    Egress traffic - 9 - 10 p.m.
107th Avenue will be limited to local access only with no on-street parking allowed north of Camelback Road.
 
Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
All affected streets will be open to normal traffic by 5 p.m. for day games and 10 p.m. for evening games.
 
Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
MARYVALE BASEBALL PARK - 2014 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING
 
The Major League Baseball 2014 Spring Training season at the Maryvale Baseball Park begins on Saturday, March 1, with games scheduled through Thursday, March 27.
 
It is anticipated during this time, 51st Avenue from Indian School to Osborn roads, as well as Indian School Road from 51st to 55th avenues may experience heavier than usual traffic during day games, as follows:
    Ingress traffic - 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.
    Egress traffic - 3:30 - 5 p.m.
In addition, if scheduled, evening games may affect traffic as follows:
    Ingress traffic - 5:30 -7:15 p.m.
    Egress traffic - 9 - 10 p.m.
Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
 
All affected streets will be open to normal traffic by 5 p.m. for day games and 10 p.m. for evening games.
 
Drivers are highly encouraged to use an alternate route or allow for additional travel time during this period.
 
REOPENING AFTER RESTRICTIONS:
 
43RD AVENUE AT LOWER BUCKEYE ROAD
 
43rd Avenue at Lower Buckeye Road is now open to normal traffic following the completion of a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project.
 
CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS:
 
Camelback Road - 12th to 16th streets, partial restriction due to a private development water main installation project, with completion scheduled for February.
 
Central Avenue - Elwood to Illini streets, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvements project to upgrade sewer mains, with completion scheduled for February.
 
Jefferson Street between First and Third avenues is currently restricted to two lanes due to storm drain work through the end of February.
 
Lower Buckeye Road - 43rd to 51st avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening Lower Buckeye Road, with completion scheduled for December.
 
Mayo Boulevard - 56th Street to Scottsdale Road, full closure due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project for the construction of 64th Street from State Route 101 Loop to Mayo Boulevard, with completion scheduled for February.
 
Thunderbird Road ¬ Black Canyon (I-17) freeway and 22nd Avenue, partially restricted due a city of Phoenix Water Services Department waterline replacement project, with completion scheduled for February.
 
3rd Avenue- Madison to Jefferson Streets, closed due to storm drain work for a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project, with scheduled completion for February.
 
12th Street - Camelback Road to Colter Street, partial restriction due to a private development water main installation project, completion scheduled for February.
 
19th Avenue - Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue).  The project will include pavement improvements, road construction, and new right turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations.  New lighting, landscape, screen walls, and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for February.  For additional information, email projects@azdot.gov or call the Project Hotline at 855-712-8530.
 
19th Avenue - Monte Vista Road to Culver Street, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue), with completion scheduled for February.
 
35th Avenue - Bethany Home Road to Missouri Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for February.
 
Northwest light rail extension - Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction.  19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.
