PHOENIX -- A portion of the Loop 101 will be closed midday Friday because of the funeral procession for Glendale Police officer Bradley Jones. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is warning drivers to allow extra time to deal with the closures or find alternate routes around this closure.
According to ADOT, Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street from approximately 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The procession will travel from the Christ’s Church of the Valley (7007 W. Happy Valley Road) to the Phoenix Memorial Cemetery (200 W. Beardsley Road).
Traffic will detour along the eastbound Beardsley frontage road while the freeway is closed,. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the eastbound freeway closure is in place.
Additionally, other closures will also be in effect during this time: westbound Beardsley Road (westbound Loop 101 frontage road) will be closed between Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue from approximately 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The southbound-to-northbound U-turn ramp at the Loop 101/Union Hills Drive interchange in Peoria also will be closed while the procession is under way.
ADOT says local drivers also should anticipate temporary closures of local streets, including 67th Avenue and Seventh Street, at the start and completion of the procession.
