PHOENIX -- West Valley commuters will soon have another quick option for navigating traffic.  The Arizona Department of Transportation says construction crews will begin work on two stretches of the Loop 303 in an effort to turn it into a six-lane freeway.

The State Transportation Board awarded contracts totaling $96.6 milion dollars.  The funds will go toward work on two different stretches of the Loop 303.  Drivers will see construction crews working on five miles of the freeway (from Thomas Road to Camelback Road, and Glendale Avenue to Peoria Avenue) starting as early as this summer.

Work on the two new projects will finish up by the Summer and Fall of 2014.

According to ADOT, the upcoming launch of both projects means expansion work will soon be under way along nearly the entire stretch of Loop 303 between I-10 on the south end and US 60 (Grand Avenue) on the north end.

Crews started working on two other major sections of the Loop 303 last year.  The work from Mountain View Boulevard to Peoria Avenue, south of Grand Avenue in Surprise, should wrap up by the Fall of 2013.  Meanwhile, the other project already underway is in Goodyear.  The completion of the I-10/Loop 303 Interchange should be done by the Summer of 2014.
