Suspect caught after jumping from freeway bridge

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- A man sought in a carjacking and a robbery is in custody after jumping from a freeway bridge in a Phoenix suburb.

Tempe police say officers used "stop sticks" to stop a stolen vehicle on the Loop 202 freeway in north Tempe early Friday morning.

The driver got out and jumped off the eight-story-tall bridge. Officers found him below the bridge, and he's been taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

The car had been taken in a Thursday night carjacking in Tempe, and the same unidentified man also was sought in a later robbery in Mesa.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the Loop 202's right three westbound lanes at the scene near the Loop 101 freeway are closed because of the police activity.
