MARANA, Ariz. (AP) -- Eastbound Interstate 10 in Marana is open again after a two-vehicle fatal accident early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say one person was killed and two suffered life-threatening injuries when their westbound SUV rolled over the median cables into the eastbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer rig.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, one of the SUV's passengers had gotten out of the stopped vehicle and was trying to help the other two people still inside the SUV when it was struck by the big rig.
The DPS says the person outside the SUV was critically injured when he was struck by the SUV as it rotated.
The driver of the SUV died at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured.
