PHOENIX -- Greenway Parkway will be closed between Seventh and 19th avenues for the next six months.
The road will be closed to replace the existing bridge over the Cave Creek Wash, between 16th Drive and 14th Avenue. Access to local residents and businesses will continue to be provided.
By closing Greenway Parkway and stopping use of the current bridge during construction the city anticipates being able to save approximately $1 million on the project. The full closure will also reduce the overall project timeline, and provide consistent and safe detours for residents, pedestrians, and commuter traffic.
A project website has been established to provide additional information on progress of the project and will be updated frequently during construction. To receive e-mail construction updates, please sign up under the "keep informed" tab on the website, www.greenwaybridge.com, or call the project information hotline at 602-825-3444.
3TV traffic reporter Gina Maravilla advised commuters to use Thunderbird and Bell roads to avoid the extended closure.
