PHOENIX – There will soon be a new way to enter the east end of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will open a new ramp connecting southbound State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) with westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard in time for rush hour Monday morning.
Crews also will reopen the reconstructed northbound SR 143 ramp to westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard, which has been closed since March for the improvement work.
The opening of the ramps completes an $18 million project to modernize the freeway connections on the east end of the airport.
Two other ramps at the interchange, the links between east- and westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard and southbound SR 143, opened to traffic in March.
The project is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments' Regional Transportation Plan approved by county voters in 2004.
