PHOENIX – Eastbound Interstate 10 was closed for about two hours Tuesday morning because of a fatal wreck at the US 60 interchange.

It happened shortly before 5 a.m.

Witnesses said it looked like nobody was driving the car when it hit a freeway wall and then bounced across the freeway, slamming into the median wall.

Emergency responders believe the driver, a man, might have suffered some kind of medical issue in the moments prior to the crash. That man's name has not been released.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

During the subsequent freeway closure, traffic was directed off I-10 at the US 60 transition ramps. The closure snarled traffic for morning commuters.

The freeway re-opened just after 7 a.m. The backup had dissipated and traffic was moving normally about 30 minutes later, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
