Monsoon hits Lake Pleasant, damages more than a dozen boats

Thursday's night storm caused some major damage at Lake Pleasant in Peoria.

Chad Case, Lake Pleasant Marina manager say at least 15 to 17 boats were damaged, and two of them sank.

Due to heavy winds in excess of 70 mph, Dock 2 lifted up during the storm and sustained damage.

This isn't the first time the monsoon blew through the marina causing havoc for boaters.

Many boaters spent the Fourth of July weekend on the beach after their boats were damaged during a storm.

"Last night's storm at Lake Pleasant did not impact Scorpion Bay Marina. Our dock, rentals and restaurant are open for business, as usual, today," said Cris McSparen, Scorpion Bay General Manager. 

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is checking if there were any injuries. 

According to the rain gauge in the area, Lake Pleasant received a total of .79 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
