MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Mesa police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a bank this week.

Police say on August 8, 2018, a suspect (later identified as Roland Oxendine) walked into the Bank of America located near Power Road and Southern Avenue.

The suspect reportedly presented a note stating it was a robbery. The note threatened he would kill someone if they stalled.

Police say Oxendine left the bank without receiving any money.

Fortunately, patrol officers were already in the area when the call for service was received and Oxendine was located a short distance away.

Besides matching the clothing description as observed in the surveillance footage, police say Oxendine admitted to the robbery, saying he needed money for a drug debt.

Oxendine was charged with one count of armed robbery.
