Looking for back-to-school deals? Try a pawn shop

Posted: Updated:

Back-to-school shopping can get expensive quickly, but thinking outside the mall can save you a ton of money.

According to the National Retail Federation, the expected spending per student is about $685 -- per student – for clothes and supplies.

You can keep a chunk of that money in your bank account (or off the credit card) by going for pre-owned items like musical instruments and electronics – big ticket items -- many of which of can be found at a pawn shop.

Gibby Parra went to one of Pawn 1st’s 20 locations in the Phoenix-metro area. There are five locations in Tucson, too.
