PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

The mother of fallen Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper Tyler Edenhofer, 24, spoke out for the first time since her son was killed in the line of duty.

In an interview only on 3TV's Good Morning Arizona, Edenhofer's mother Deborah spoke about her son as she joined by his fiancée Kaile, his cousin Thomas and his sister Destiny.

Edenhofer lost his life last week when a suspect shot him during a struggle with two other state troopers.

Family members said that Edenhofer was also a Navy veteran who had just graduated from the academy in May.

During the interview, Deborah and Thomas shared some personal stories about Edenhofer.

They talked about his life and what they will remember about him the most.

"When he put that uniform on, he loved it," she said.

Despite his young age, Edenhofer said that her son made a huge impact on those around him especially during his time with DPS.

"He loved what he was doing," she said. "He wanted to serve his community. It's such a tragic loss. He's affected so many people. He will be missed."

Edenhofer said her son joined the Navy after he graduated from high school. She added that Edenhofer was part of the Navy for four years and left because he wanted to be a trooper with DPS.

Edenhofer said the support has not stopped since her son's death.

"With the DPS family, my family, friends. They are all taking care of us. Making sure that we eat. They have been outstanding," she said.

Since Edenhofer's death, his cousin Thomas said his outlook on life has changed.

"I know from this day forward, I will live my life to the best I can," he said.

"This is for him. That's what he would have wanted."

Edenhofer told GMAZ anchor Scott Pasmore that she plans to attend to every court hearing of suspect Isaac Damon King.

"I want to sure this guy stays behind bars. I don't want him out," she said.

"He's a danger to the community. I want justice for my son," Edenhofer added.

The family said there is one trait they will miss from Edenhofer.

"His laugh," Edenhofer's cousin Thomas said. "His laugh was so contagious. It would light up the room."

A candlelight vigil is planned Monday at 8 p.m. at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix.

The event will feature addresses by Gov. Doug Ducey and DPS Col. Frank Milstead.
