CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

An ordinary staff meeting at Chandler’s Sanborn Elementary School turned into an extraordinary event when Gina Maravilla and Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad paid them a visit.

“How are you guys?  I’m Gina Maravilla from 'Good Morning Arizona' and Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad” said Maravilla as Principal Caryn Cole led her to the front of the room.

“Right there we’ve got breakfast for everybody, so please help yourselves,” said Maravilla, as she pointed to the back of the room where platters of pastries, fresh fruit, juice and coffee were displayed.

“Our partners, Valley Toyota Dealers, have been wonderful and they understand the value of giving back to the community and what better investment than to give back to teachers,” said Maravilla.

“We want to give Sanborn Elementary $2,700 for the school and every single one of you will get a gift card,” Maravilla said to the group of 45 teachers.

Amid the excitement and applause, Cole shared what makes her teachers so special as each one came forward to claim their gift.

“All of them are angels on earth,” she said.

Her band teacher travels to four different schools throughout the day, every day. Another teacher was recognized as a Si Se Puede Foundation educator of the year. Cole also has a Rodel Foundation of Arizona teacher on her staff.  And new to Sanborn Elementary this year will be a staff dedicated to autistic students.

While two of her teachers are starting their first year, one teacher is celebrating her 20th year in the classroom.

“Twentieth year! Why kindergarten?” asked Maravilla.

“They just absorb everything like a big sponge. It’s just wonderful,” said the teacher.

While the teachers enjoyed their breakfast, they took a break to take a group photo with Maravilla.

“We do what we do out of our hearts because we love kids and we want to make a difference in the world,” Cole said. “Thank you so much for choosing us. ... We just feel very honored and blessed, so thank you.”
