This Friday check out the full moon.

The July moon is known as the Buck Moon. It got that name because at this time of year male deer shed their old antlers and grow new ones.

This also happens with moose, elk and other species of deer.

Full moons get their names from Native American tribes and usually fits with what is going on during the season. For example, in December we have the Cold Moon and in March we have the Harvest Moon.

Pretty exciting stuff, there will also be a total lunar eclipse with this moon. It won’t be visible here but folks in Europe, Africa, and Australia can see it.

It will be the longest eclipse of the 21st century, lasting for an hour and 45 minutes.
