Summer is here which means triple-digit temperatures. We all know that the more we turn on the A/C, the higher our bills will be. Debbie Hernandez from the Home Depot gives us other ways to keep cool during the summer. 

Keeping it Cool Hints and Tips: 
Make a Portable Air Conditioner

  • Room Fan
  • 3/8” Copper Tubing Coil
  • Clear Rubber Hose
  • 2 Hose Clamps 
  • Zip Ties
  • Small Fountain Pump
  • 5 Gallon Home Depot Bucket


  • Attach Copper Tubing Coil to fab with zip ties
  • Attach a piece of Clear hose to each end of the copper tubing, secure both with hose clamps
  • Attach fountain pump to end of copper at the center and the other hose to the outer end.
  • Fill a bucket with ice water
  • Place both clear tubing pieces with a pump into the water, the pump must be completely submerged. Another hose is the drain.
  • Place a towel underneath to catch condensation
  • Turn the fan on and Enjoy being cool!!!

Other ways to keep it cool: 

  • Purchase a portable evaporative cooler or window air conditioner.
  • Place a bowl of ice in front of a fan
  • Keep your blinds closed
  • Use Blackout Roller Shades
  • Use Blackout Draperies or Blackout Liner under existing draperies
  • Run Ceiling Fans Counter Clockwise -Close off unused rooms
  • Wear Cool Apparel from Arctic Cove -Cool sheets in the freezer before bed
  • Place a frozen water bottle wrapped in a cloth under your sheets at the door your bed
  • Grill instead of using the oven
  • Hang clothes outside, Don’t use the dryer as much
  • Take a cold shower or jump in the pool
