RECIPE: Uptown Alley is serving up Spam burgers

It's the tagline for spam and whether you love it, hate it or have never tried it, it is making a big comeback. 

Spam was launched on July 5, 1937, Spam was popularized during WWII when the U.S. Army purchased more than 165 million pounds! 

Uptown Alley in Suprise is swapping out red meat for spam on a burger.

They have provided the following recipe to one of their popular meals: 

Aloha Slider from Uptown Alley

Per slider

2oz ground beef, formed into a patty

Pinch of salt & pepper

1 Hawaiian roll


2oz Spam sliced thin

1 Tbs. Pineapple Salsa (drained) or slice of pineapple grilled

1. Season beef with salt and pepper. Place on hot grill or sauté pan. Grill ~2-3 minutes per side. 

2. Heat the slices of Spam next to beef patties to pick up the flavors

3. Toast roll

4. When burgers are done and Spam is lightly grilled, remove from heat. 

5. Assemble the slider  top toasted bun with slider, Spam and pineapple salsa

Pineapple salsa

1 c fresh pineapple, chopped

2 Tbs. red onion, chopped

3 Tbs. red bell pepper, chopped

2 Tbs. cilantro, minced

1 fresh lime, juiced

2-3 tsp. Chipotle puree

1 tsp. Salt and pepper

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
