Jaime's Local Love: Karl's Bakery in Phoenix bakes up Cake Cacti

Succulent cupcakes were all the rage and now Karl's Quality Bakery in Phoenix is baking up the next big thing-- cactus cakes!

The father, daughter duo, Karl and Christine, own Karl's Bakery in the Sunnyslope area. This bakery is a staple in the Valley-- coming up on 25 years.

The bakery moved around in its 25 years and has been at it's new location on Dunlap for almost 5 years. Known for its "Kronut" fame, combining a croissant and doughnut, Karl's Quality Bakery has long been a Phoenician favorite.

Karl is a German immigrant who started baking at the age of 14. His daughter, a Swiss-trained chocolatier, begins her baking day at 1:30 a.m., 6 days a week, specializing in old-world Danish pastries and special order cakes.

There are some 400 different menu items to tempt you. Karl's Quality Bakery offers fresh muffins, croissants, turnovers, doughnuts, coffee cake, bread, pies, quiche, cookies, brownies, tarts and eclairs daily.
