PHOENIX-- Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is hosting a "Mutt Madness Adopt-a-Thon" on Friday, June 22 to help create life-saving space in their shelters.

Both Two Pups Wellness Fund and One Love Pit Bull Foundation are sponsoring the adoption event that will allow the general public to adopt their new furry friend for FREE!

The summer months are a critical time for our County shelters.  During this time of year shelter capacity is at extreme levels so events like these help to create the space needed to take in the area's homeless animals.

It is not uncommon for the shelters to house upwards of 12-hundred animals during the summer months.  During those times the shelter's staff and supplies are stretched thin.

When organizations come in and sponsor adoption events, several hundred animals find homes and that allows for homeless animals to come in off the street.  On average, 80-100 animals are brought into the shelter daily through field operations.

The FREE event will take place at both County shelter locations; which are located in Mesa at 2630 W Rio Salado Pkwy. and the Phoenix location at 2500 S 27th Avenue.

The East shelter will host the FREE event during normal business hours, which are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the West shelter will have extended hours from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.

The West shelter will also have food vendors and entertainment on hand for adopters along with introducing a "Doggy Valet" service.  MCACC Field Officers will act as "valets" and escort the family's new furry friend to their cars to ensure they make it home safely.

For more information on MCACC, you can go to their website at pets.maricopa.gov.  For those who cannot adopt, financial donations may be made in person or on MCACC's website.  Donations of supplies can be dropped off at either location.
