(Meredith/KPRC) – Customers at a new coffee shop in Texas are getting their beverages delivered by baristas wearing bikinis, but that idea isn’t sitting well with everyone.
“I’m just for anything that’s different,” Morticia Valentine, one of the baristas at “Double Cups,” told KPRC.
Trevor Lohr, one of the co-owners, said an idea like this is very popular on the west coast, but for League City, Texas, it’s a first.
“We just want to bring something fresh and new to the coffee scene,” Juan Martinez, another co-owner said.
However, not everyone in the community is as excited as Lohr and Martinez. Local Facebook groups and pages are full of comments against the new shop since it opened on Monday.
“It’s just sad that this is the new normal for women/teenage girls to work in,” one Facebook commenter wrote. “If your coffee, food, or product is good, you don’t need your employees to wear lingerie/revealing clothes.”
"It’s kind of pathetic, the creativity for new businesses have resorted to sexual exploitation just to earn a buck. #BringBackClass,” another person wrote.
But Valentine doesn’t see it that way.
“I’m definitely not being used, my bills are being paid,” she told KPRC. “That’s all that matters, right?”
Employees at the coffee shop are paid $15 per hour and Valentine said she made $70 in tips alone in just a few hours.
