(Meredith/WCBS/CNN) – A high school senior in New Jersey is the first student in her district to be offered a full academic scholarship by all eight Ivy league colleges.

Anna Rezk is very modest, even though she just made history at High Technical High School in North Bergen.

“It was very surprising and very surreal at the same time,” she told CBS New York.

The hardworking 18-year-old currently has a 5.63 GPA after earning stellar grades in her advanced-placement and honors classes. She also scored a 1570 out of 1600 on her SATs.

When Anna was just 13, her dad died from pancreatic cancer. So, she's determined to find a cure in his honor.

“She’s just dedicated to doing what she can to find a cure for cancer and doing it so people don’t have to go through what she went through,” science teacher Bill Goold said.

Anna’s twin brother, John, said she took on more responsibilities at home after their father's death -- but she never neglected her schoolwork.

“Close to when our father passed away, my mom started working a lot more overtime hours, so Anna was usually the one at home,” he said. “At the same time when she was studying, she was cooking for us. She was always taking care of us, making sure we were on track.”

The teen hasn’t decided where she’ll go to school just yet, but said it’s between Princeton and Brown.
