PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A man was killed after a hit-and-run collision in Phoenix, fire officials said.

The collision was reported near 16th Street and Highland Avenue just before 8:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Vince Lewis with Phoenix police.

Lewis said a vehicle described as a dark colored Nissan was traveling eastbound when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing mid-block and not in a crosswalk. The driver did not stop and continued out of the area.

The pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old Robert Melvin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lewis said a short time later, a vehicle matching the description was located in a second, single-vehicle collision near Seventh and Roosevelt streets. The driver was located, showed signs of impairment and was evaluated for DUI.

The investigation is ongoing.
