PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

A woman has died after an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in north Phoenix, police said.

Around 6:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired near 47th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, officers arrived and set up a containment on the suspect's house across the street. Lewis said a witness officer arrived and contacted the suspect's family and learned she had already fired twice inside the home.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Alexis Stinson, then approached officers armed with a rifle. Lewis said she fired shots at the officers, who returned fire.

Stinson was shot and taken to a hospital where she died.

No officers were injured.
