(WISH-TV/Meredith) – Students at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana are trying to make the world a better place one locker at a time by spreading messages of love and hope.

During the school's "Random Acts of Kindness" challenge, 24 classes were selected to find ways to show other people how much they matter.

Aaliyah Thompson, a student, was in one of those selected classes. And here's what she and her friends decided to do.

“I thought this was important, too, considering some of the things that have been happening and just knowing that we’re all in a family at Carmel High School,” she said to WISH-TV.

Last week, more than 1,500 students stayed home from school due to reports of rumored threats and two students were arrested after allegedly making gun-related threats. It's situations like this that inspired Thompson and her classmates to use words to build others up, instead of tearing them down.

Messages as simple as “You are loved” and “You are beautiful” were posted on every locker across the campus.

“You just don’t know the impact that it’s going to have on somebody’s day. And you know, I think that’s the bigger picture,” Sarah Wolff, a teacher at the school, told WISH-TV.

23 other classes performed other acts of kindness around the school, and a video of the good deeds will be viewed by the student body during their Mental Health Awareness Week next week.
