ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Video of an Upstate veteran’s nursing home honoring a veteran after his death has gone viral.

Laura Dorn said her father passed away on the night of February 8 at the Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson County.

She said her dad, Douglas Timmons, was a US Air Force veteran. He had been battling Alzheimer’s for years.

Dorn said the nursing home has a tradition of honoring the fallen heroes with a procession through the hallways after they pass on.

Russell Evatt, the nursing home director said they call it the farewell ceremony and they are done for every veteran who passes away.

“They were good enough to arrive through the front door, so we want them to leave through the front door,” Evatt said.

Dorn said she recorded the video for her sisters who were not able to witness the procession firsthand.

She posted the video on Facebook for her family members to see, and said she tagged the nursing home in the post.

Since then, the video has been viewed more than 5.8 million times and Dorn said she has received messages from people all across the world, offering their condolences and gratitude for her father’s service.
