TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A woman's husband is now in custody after the woman was stabbed to death outside a Tempe shopping center Monday morning.

The incident happened just after midnight outside of a Food City grocery store near McKellips and Scottsdale roads

Tempe police found 36-year-old Kristen Figley in the parking lot. She had been stabbed.

Figley was transported to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital,  where she was pronounced dead.

Her husband, 41-year-old Kody Vaught, was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

A backpack belonging to Vaught had been found at the scene. He had also been seen on security cameras with the victim at the scene, according to the police report.

The report also states that Vaught was seen chasing Figley out of camera view.

A man identified as Vaught was spotted later at an apartment complex, crying. The police report states that the man had abrasions and red stains on his clothing. He also had blood on his shoes. Police say he had also shed some of his clothing after the incident.

Vaught is being held in jail without bond. He is due back in court Feb. 13.
