(Meredith) – A giant chunk of ice fell and crushed a car in New York City around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, CBS News reported.

"Falling icicles and snow masses from buildings can be dangerous in a dense city such as New York, and can injure pedestrians, damage vehicles, and disrupt transportation if streets must be closed for safety reasons," the Department of Buildings told WPIX.

The New York City Fire Department removed the ice from the vehicle, according to WPIX.

WPIX reported that it isn’t uncommon for large chunks of ice to fall from buildings in the city, especially when the temperature starts rising.
