(CNN/Meredith) – Authorities saved the life of a man who they say led them on a chase in South Carolina.

According to the Kershaw County Sheriff's office, Cody Jackson was driving the vehicle that's seen fleeing deputies in this dash camera video.

The sheriff says the 26-year-old faced numerous warrants for a "one-man crime spree." In the video, you see Jackson supposedly taking deputies on a wild chase before crashing through a gated private property.

That's when authorities say he drove off a dirt road embankment and into the Wateree River.

Jackson yelled to the deputies he couldn't swim, so authorities jumped into rescue Jackson and a female passenger.

“He started screaming like a baby that he couldn’t swim and asking deputies to get him out of the car,” Sheriff Jim Matthews said.

He was then taken into custody.
