(AP/Meredith) -- A patrol officer in Texas is lucky to be alive after he slipped on an icy highway and was almost run over by a sliding vehicle. The incident was captured on police dashcam video.
"I saw the car starting to slide," said Officer Jonathan Cramer. "At the last second, he went to his right a bit, and I was able to get out of the way and get my hand up out of the way, too," he said.
The bone-chilling cold gripping much of the U.S. is breaking century-old records and is being blamed on several deaths. The cold is blamed in at least nine deaths in the past week.
The National Weather Service issued wind chill advisories and freeze warnings Tuesday covering a vast area from South Texas to Canada and from Montana through New England.
